Gov't Proposal of Requiring Captions and Audio Description at Movie Theaters

Love going to the movie theaters? Sad that captions and/or audio description aren't always available for your favorite movies? Well, that may all change in the future, according to the press release that went out this morning.

The Government Attorney of the United States has signed a proposal making captions and descriptive audio a requirement at movie theaters under the Title III portion of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This amendment to the ADA would make it a requirement for movie theaters to offer captions and/or descriptive audio thus making it accessible to Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and blind audiences.

Read the full press release here (http://www.ada.gov/regs2014/movie_nprm_index.htm ).

There is a suggestion box on the website that will allow the public to make suggestions. This is available until September 30, 2014.

Big changes may indeed be coming to a movie theater near you!
